Grand Day Parade in St. Louis Park will feature ambassadors, color guard
The Grand Day Parade, the largest, most well-attended event at Parktacular, will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20.
The parade has been a tradition in St. Louis Park that dates back longer than the Parktacular festival name.
As is protocol for parades, the parade will begin with emergency vehicles to be followed by the color guard. This year, as in years past, the color guard is made up of veterans, mostly members of the St. Louis Park American Legion. All veterans may march as part of the color guard unit. Residents that line the parade route stand as the color guard passes.
After the color guard, attendees sit down as parade units begin with the Parktacular grand marshal.
The festival has made a change for its 2015 grand marshal. Although Bridgewater Bank will remain the Parktacular presenting sponsor, ambassador alumni from as far back as the 1940s have been selected to serve as the grand marshal.
Parade attendees will also view several new parade units, like Fight or Flight Academy representatives showcasing their parkour athleticism. Old favorites will be there, too, like St. Louis Park resident Elliott Royce as the Cat in the Hat on his tricycle.
A parade route map and additional details can be found at parktacular.org/granddayparade.html.
