CHAIM IVRY
Dear Judy, Jeff, Sandie and Cindy,
My deepest and most profound condolences are with you. Deborah and I are both very saddened by your tragic loss.
You've all been so fortunate to enjoy your Dad's company and productive life for such a long time. Although the pain of loss is nevertheless left undiminished. May you find peace as you mourn his sudden departure.
Elliott's passing marks an end of an era. He was truly one of a kind and his absence will be felt deeply by all of those who have come to know him well.
I will never forget how Elliott had reached out and touched the lives of my beloved parents with his generosity and love. His unexpected acts of kindness, and there were many, had left them forever grateful. In 1971, he had gifted them with a dream trip to the US so they can meet your entire family, the relatives from LA and elsewhere. For my Mom and Dad, who had arrived to Israel in 1947 as Holocaust refugees with only the clothes on their back, and who have proudly raised our family on modest means, a "trip to America" was the stuff of dreams. Yes, the "cousins from America" were always showered with love when they arrived at our apartment in Ramat Gan, but visiting them in America was not something one could have even imagine. I vividly remember their initial disbelief, the thrill and then the tears of joy when those plane tickets from Elliott arrived. It was indeed their trip of a lifetime. Elliott and Bess took care of all their entire experience, treated them like royalty, and my parents were so moved by that. So here they were, jetting across the US, visiting relatives and places they only heard about, and savoring those moments with family they have never, or only briefly, met before.
Mom and Dad loved Elliott and held a special place for him in their heart, with an admiration of how he had manifested his ideas and imagination. Elliott was special.
I hold my own fond memories of many great moments in time with Elliiott and with your entire family in Minneapolis. During Elliott's visits with us in Manhattan, Brooklyn and elsewhere, I got to know him so well and we became ever closer. He was always a welcome visitor, as I looked forward to hearing from him again. We really had fun together and managed to spend quality time at each of his visits. Elliiott was sort of a force of nature, a fascinating man who was genuinely interested in what you thought and did, who was always loving, supportive and positive.
He will always be missed. May he rest in peace.
Our thoughts and love are with you all. - Chaim and Deborah.
