Readers can donate their 'used' hardback bestsellers to library.
Frustrated with long waits for best-selling books, a Hennepin County Library user wondered if people who routinely buy popular hardcover books for themselves could donate them to the library system when they've finished reading them. Now they can.
Thanks to a good idea from Elliott Royce and his wife, Beverley Tallman, of Golden Valley, the library system is beginning a program called "Too Hot to Hold On To: Buy, Read and Donate." It encourages buyers of bestsellers to read them and then quickly donate them to the library so that popular books will be available to the public faster.
Fast has not been the operative word. Library users have waited as long as a year for some titles. …
